The National Rosacea Institute reports that an estimated 16 million Americans are afflicted with Rosacea, a conspicuous condition that manifests into redness of the face. The Institute raises awareness of the condition because if detected early, Rosacea can be treated and controlled.
Beachwood and Westlake Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa staff has worked with a number of patients to control this skin disorder. This April, we are further educating our clients on this common condition affecting so many to different degrees.
Those who suffer from Rosacea are often most affected by the unwanted attention it can solicit. In a survey conducted by the National Rosacea Institute, most respondents reported experiencing negative social impacts due to the condition. While the cause of Rosacea is still unclear, there are specific triggers that bring on extreme facial redness. These can include stress, spicy foods, alcohol, exposure to the sun, humidity, and even hot beverages.
Patients who identify the symptoms early on, seek treatment and avoid triggers can find great success in managing the condition.
Dr. Goldman and his staff work with a few different products to treat Rosacea in Cleveland.
Avene Antirougeurs Dermo-Cleansing Fluid This medical-grade cleansing fluid is specifically for those with sensitive skin and can be effective in treating Roasacea. The milky cleansing fluid should be applied with a cotton ball and gently washed from the face. Avene Antirougeurs Dermo-Cleansing Fluid is intended to calm and heal the face, so those with sensitive skin should not experience any irritation or additional redness.
Diroseal Anti-redness lotion
This corrective lotion is used to smooth the skin and eliminate redness and patchiness caused by flair-ups and irritation. The lotion, which contains retinol, acts as a barrier from the environment, but also helps to reduce the appearance of redness through a faint green tint that neutralizes pink tones.
Redness relief soothing cream with SPF
Antirougeurs DAY Redness Relief Soothing Cream can be applied during the day for relief, camouflage, treatment, and protection. The product stimulates microcirculation while minimizing the appearance of swelling and redness. Patients using Antirougeurs DAY Redness Relief Soothing Cream report that that the product also reduces the recurrence of blushing and flushed face commonly experienced by Rosacea sufferers. The soothing cream provides SPF 25 for protection against sun exposure.
Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream
Dr. Goldman and staff recommend this product based on its fast-acting results and healing powers. The product is often used post-procedure, but can also work wonders for those suffering from an extreme Rosacea flair-up. It can be used on irritated skin, cuts, scrapes, and open wounds. The product is fragrance and preservative free, creating a healthy barrier for the skin which allows it to heal uninterrupted.
