Cellulite is caused by a combination of factors that combine to cause dimpling and irregularity in the skin and subcutaneous fat. Strong connective tissue bands attach to the skin in some areas causing dimples and depressions. In other areas, fat can bulge in between connective tissue bands. If the overlying skin has poor elasticity and thickness, these changes are more visible. Weight fluctuations, smoking, sun tanning, and aging can cause these changes to become more pronounced and more difficult to treat. Estrogen may also be a factor.
Avéli is an FDA-approved treatment that is designed to target and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Using a specialized device, Avéli releases the fibrous bands beneath the skin that contribute to the dimples and irregularities, smoothing the skin.
Avéli is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia in the office. The Avéli device uses a tiny blade inserted through a small puncture to entrap and cut fibrous bands that cause the dimples and bands that contribute to cellulite. The device is guided under the skin by a self-contained light source. By breaking these bands, the skin’s surface is smoothed.
Before the procedure, you’ll have a consultation with Dr. Goldman’s staff to discuss your goals, review your medical history, examine the areas of concern, and answer any questions you might have about the procedure. This thorough process lets us determine if Avéli is the right treatment for you.
On the day of your office procedure, one of our highly-trained practitioners will map and precisely mark the areas of cellulite, identifying specific dimples and short creases that are likely to benefit from release. The skin is cleaned, and local anesthetic is administered to keep you comfortable. The Avéli device is inserted through tiny incisions made in the skin. The device incorporates a lighted probe that is used to identify specific fibrous bands beneath the skin that contribute to dimples and creases. The bands are then cut in a focal, precise 3-dimensional manner (at the appropriate depth under the skin and at the specific location to fully release them), releasing dimples and smoothing the skin.
Once the treatment is complete, the device is removed, and the tiny incisions are closed. The procedure generally lasts about an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. Patients can shower the same day and resume exercise the next day. We also ask you to massage the treated areas a few times a day for several weeks.
Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the procedure. Local anesthesia is used to minimize pain, and the discomfort is generally well-tolerated.
The results of Avéli are considered permanent because this is a minimally invasive but true surgical release of the fibrous bands, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle (avoiding smoking, tanning, and large weight fluctuations) will help maintain the elasticity and youthfulness of the skin, preserving the improvements. Over time, aging and lifestyle can affect the appearance of cellulite.
Most patients achieve their desired results with just one treatment. However, we’ll discuss your individual needs and goals during your consultation to determine if additional sessions are likely.
Results can often be seen within less than a month after the procedure, as mild bruising and smelling resolve. The end result is generally visible 3 to 6 months after the procedure.
Avéli is suitable for individuals with mild to severe cellulite. Avéli may be combined with other treatment modalities, including liposuction, filler injection, and radiofrequency skin tightening. Since cellulite has multiple overlapping causes, there is no combination of treatments that will completely eliminate cellulite for most patients, but most patients feel that improvement is noticeable and beneficial. During your consultation, Dr. Goldman’s team will evaluate your goals, degree of cellulite, and contributing factors to determine the best treatment plan for you, and we will discuss realistic goals and probable outcomes – so that you can make an informed decision about your care.
Avéli™ is a targeted solution for individuals looking to address mild to severe cellulite. This treatment breaks down the fibrous bands that contribute to the dimpled appearance of the skin, providing a smoother, more toned look. While Avéli™ can be combined with other treatments like liposuction, filler injections, and radiofrequency skin tightening, it’s important to note that no treatment can completely eliminate cellulite for most patients. However, many people experience noticeable and beneficial improvements after undergoing treatment.
During your consultation, Dr. Goldman’s team will carefully evaluate your goals and the factors contributing to your condition. We’ll then develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your expectations while discussing realistic outcomes to ensure you're fully informed in making the best decision for your care.
