Emsculpt is a newly FDA-approved technology that is the only device of its kind. It uses high intensity focused electromagnetic waves to stimulate rapid muscle contraction that helps increase muscle development, toning, and definition. The muscle contractions are referred to as supramaximal contractions. The muscles contract rapidly in a repetitive fashion with faster twitching that is achieved through normal voluntary muscle contraction. There is some evidence that overlying fat decreases in thickness as well. Early results with this technology have been excellent. Emsculpt Cleveland is performed in the office and does not require anesthesia.
What is Emsculpt?
As noted above, Emsculpt is an office procedure that increases muscle tone and definition by stimulating muscles using high intensity focused electromagnetic waves that stimulate powerful muscle contractions that occur more rapidly through normal voluntary muscle action including with exercise.
What Areas Could be Treated?
Currently, the FDA has approved Emsculpt’s use on the abdominal muscles and gluteal muscles. Other FDA indications are expected soon.
How Many Treatments are Necessary and How Long do They Take?
A typical procedure takes 30 minutes. Typically four sessions are used over two weeks.
What does Emsculpt Feel Like?
Emsculpt feels like a sustained muscle contraction. No anesthesia or sedation is need.
Are there any Special Instructions Before or After the Procedure?
No special preparation is required before the procedure except being well hydrated before, during, and after the procedure. No precautions are necessary after the procedure. Patients are allowed to work out without restriction. We do recommend that patients do not come in with sore muscles from working out the day of the procedure.
Is the Procedure Invasive?
No. The procedure is not invasive. There are no needles and certainly no cutting; just noninvasive magnetic waves.
How Long Does it Take to See Results?
Most patients feel a difference within the first couple of days after the treatment. This feels similar to the strengthening of muscles that occurs early after a workout. Patients generally see and feel further improvement several weeks following the procedure.
Who is a Candidate?
Most people are good candidates for Emsculpt in Ohio. Patients who work out and patients who are sedentary are good candidates. As with almost any cosmetic procedure, patients who are significantly overweight really are better off eating well and exercising until they are a point closer to their normal body mass index before having Emsculpt, Cool Sculpting, or even surgical procedures.
