Microneedling is a great way to address many skin conditions and treat signs of aging at the cellular level. This treatment triggers creation of collagen and elastin that can improve fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, and skin tone and texture. Acne scars, sun spots and other skin damage can take a toll on your skin and although many procedures promise a permanent solution for these issues, in most cases, it is not possible to make it disappear in a single night. If you are looking for an effective way to rejuvenate and tighten your skin, or to permanently reduce acne scars, wrinkles, and sunspots, you should consider collagen induction therapy, also known as microneedling. At Beachwood ● Westlake Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa our patients are also provided with the option to combine microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments. Whether you opt for microneedling alone, or you wish to combine it with PRP, this treatment can do wonders for your new look. Your skin will look tighter and younger, and the results can be noticed only after a single session.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a type of collagen induction therapy that uses a unique electronic device to create small pinholes in the top layer of your skin (the epidermis). This stimulates production of collagen and elastin, which are the two proteins responsible for the structure of your skin. The skin remodling that occurs after treatment is beneficial for many concerns of aging skin. Offered at both our Beachwood and Westlake locations, the procedure is performed with the Bellus Medical SkinPen, the most advanced medical-grade microneedling device available.

Microneedling with Bellus Medical SkinPen

Microneedling is among the latest innovations in aesthetic medicine. The treatment uses a microneedling device to penetrate the top layer of your skin, causing micro punctures and slightly damaging its surface. As a result, the body’s natural wound healing mechanisms are triggered, and as a result, your skin’s epidermal thickness increases, the skin tightens, and fine lines and wrinkles significantly reduce.

Micro-needling with SkinPen helps with skin rejuvenation and effectively reduces acne scars, sunspots, melasma, wrinkles, pore size and even stretch marks. Apart from treating the mentioned skin imperfections, repeated microneedling treatments can also help with healing hypertrophic and dyspigmented burn scars on the face and body.

What is PRP Therapy?

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is along with microneedling considered one of the most effective skin rejuvenation treatments in the US. PRP aims to stimulate rapid skin repair and is used during micro-needling treatment to further boost the bodies healing response and provide enhanced results. The procedure involves using small amounts of concentrated plasma from your blood and micro-needling in or injecting small amounts into your skin. To achieve even more significant, long-lasting and visible results, leading cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists combine PRP therapy with microneedling.

Benefits of Microneedling Combined With PRP

Non-invasive procedure: This treatment is non-invasive, and it doesn’t require using lasers, surgery or standard injections to treat your skin.
Effective skin damage repair: Microneedling combined with PRP therapy efficiently improves the condition of your skin and treats various skin imperfections and aging skin.

Short recovery period: For the first day or two after the treatment you shouldn’t wear any occlusive makeup and must stay out of the sun. However, since there won’t be any inflammation, you could return to your daily activities immediately after the treatment. Your face may feel warm, tighter and look a bit red, but it won’t prevent you from returning to work the next day or completing any of your usual daily activities. We do offer a special breathable cover up foundation that can be worn immediately after treatment, although most patients don’t feel the need to cover the immediate and temporary redness.

Natural skin rejuvenation treatment: Microneedling and PRP therapy are entirely safe and natural. The procedure aims to stimulate the body’s self-healing mechanisms without inserting any dangerous or foreign substances into your body. By causing microdamage on the surface of the skin, your skin will start repairing itself and produce more collagen and elastin as a result.

No pain: This type of collagen induction therapy only affects the epidermal layer of your skin and the procedure is very tolerable. Some patients report slight discomfort, but as we apply a topical numbing prior to the treatment our patients say it is worth it for the results they see.

Long lasting effects: When it comes to treating the effects of skin aging, microneedling and PRP therapy will bring you long-lasting benefits. Improvement can be seen after one treatment, and enhanced with a series of treatments (typically 3 are recommended).
