Ulthera™ Ultrasound Therapy
Ultherapy™ is a non-invasive tissue lifting treatment for the face and neck. Contact us at Beachwood / Westlake Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa in Cleveland, OH today for more information on this exciting new technology.
How does Ultherapy™ Work?
Ulthera™ ultrasound treatment directs sound waves not only into the skin but deep under the skin to gently heat the tissue. This thermal energy is delivered via ultrasound directly into the connective tissue that lines the facial muscles. This results in tissue contraction which lifts and tightens loose skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. In addition to the lifting and tightening benefits, there is also the creation of new collagen, which helps the skin maintain its youthfulness.
Ulthera™ ultrasound treatments differ from other non-invasive tightening treatments in that the beneficial energy can be guided to specific areas and the device actually shows where this energy is going. Think about a typical sonogram where the screen gives feedback to the practitioner as to where in the body the sound waves are hitting. This feedback makes for a highly effective, targeted and safe procedure.
What areas can be treated with Ultherapy™?
Ulthera™ is used to treat the face and neck. It can safely be used to treat the entire area, or it can be used to target specific regions such as lower face, neck only, peri-oral (around the mouth) or peri-ocular (around the eyes).
Who is a candidate?
Most healthy adults whose skin has started to sag or who feel a loss of skin firmness are good candidates for an Ulthera™ treatment. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is to come meet us in person and discuss your aesthetic goals with our staff.
Remember, there is no replacement for surgery, but an Ultherapy™ treatment offers a ‘no downtime’ approach to improving lax skin and restoring youthfulness for those who are not ready or may not be a candidate for a surgical procedure.
Ultherapy™ is also often combined with other treatments such as Fillers, Botox™ or Dysport™, and Laser resurfacing treatments to achieve optimal results.
What is expected during and after a treatment?
An Ultherapy™ procedure lasts about 30 to 60 minutes and uses the body’s own subtle healing response to restore tone the skin and stimulate underlying collagen. Ultherapy™ requires no special preparation or downtime after the procedure and typically only takes one treatment to get a meaningful response. Comfort levels vary from patient to patient but you do not need anesthesia to undergo this procedure. Most patients report a tingling/prickling or heat beneath the skin. This is the energy being delivered and indicates the treatment is working. Patients enjoy some immediate results following the procedure, but the ultimate results are seen over 2-3 months as underlying collagen is created.
Patients usually resume their normal activities right after treatment. Some mild redness to the treated area is expected but should subside within a few hours. Slight tenderness to the area is also normal and will resolve within a few days of treatment. Other temporary side affects that are less common include mild swelling or bruising. All of the possible risks and side affects to treatment will be discussed during your private consultation.
How many treatments are needed?
Most patients require only one treatment to obtain the desired result. Patients begin to see the effects of the Ulthera™ treatment after about 2-3 months as the underlying collagen is created. While results typically last for up to 2 years, treatment can be repeated after 12 months to maximize the benefit of Ultherapy™.
